SCARCITY OF WATER:A DIFFICULT SITUATION IN THE ECOSYSTEM.

60% of the human adult body is water. Water is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odourless  and nearly colorless chemical substance, which is the main constituent of Earth’s hydrosphere and the fluid of most living organisms.
Water carries nutrients to all the cells in our body and oxygen to our brain. Water allows the body to absorb and assimilate minerals, vitamins, amino acids, glucose and other substances.
Water exists in two forms Ortho-water and Para -water

Water scarcity is the lack of fresh water resources to meet water demand. When there is not enough portable water for a given population, the threat of water crisis is realized. Water scarcity has affected every continent. Around 1.2 billion people,or almost one-fifth of the world’s population live in areas of physical scarcity and 500million people are approaching this situation. Since there is water scarcity, there is straggle for water.
Causes of water scarcity
1. Climate change, such as altered weather-patterns ( including floods)
2. Deforestation
3. Increased pollution
4. Green house gases and wasteful use of water can cause insufficient supply
All causes of water scarcity are related to human interference with the water cycle.
Some effects of water scarcity
1. Ground water over drafting ( excessive use leading to diminished agricultural yields)
2. Regional conflicts over scare water resources harming biodiversity
3. Inadequate access to safe drinking water for about 885 million people

Some effects of water scarcity
1. Ground water over drafting ( excessive  use leading to diminished agricultural yields)
2. Regional conflicts over scare water resources harming biodiversity

4.Hunger
5. Diseases
6. Poverty
7. Filth
How to avoid water scarcity
1. Educate to change consumption and lifestyle. Changing the face the crisis involves education to motivate new behaviors
2. Inventing new water conservation technologies. Bringing new water conservation technologies to the notice of the people.
3. Recycle wastewater. Recycling of wastewater will also help avoid water scarcity
4.  Protecting wet lands
5. Improve irrigation and agricultural practices
6. Develop energy efficient desalination plants.
