WATER POLLUTION: A HINDRANCE TO ECONOMIC GROWTH

Image
Water is an essential element of life without which nothing can be done. Water is very useful to living organisms. Science has proven that water contains 11.19% hydrogen and 88.81% oxygen, meaning oxygen cannot only be gotten from trees but from water too. Following the importance of oxygen to living organisms, one can imagine how important water is to living organisms. Research shows that the earth is made up of 71% of water and the oceans hold 96.5% of all earth's water, meaning the earth's land is 29%, this means that God in his intimate wisdom considered the importance of water when creating the universe. But the question here is, can water serve it's full purpose when not clean or how would living organisms survive when all of earth's water bodies are finally polluted? Due to urbanisation and industrialization, clean water on earth is 2.5% out of the 71% of earth's surface covered by water. Around 70% of industrial waste is dumped into water. 80% of water poll

WATER CONSERVATION: A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

Over the years water has proven to be one of human's essential resource yet we only smile when we see Gold .To prove to us its relevance, it covers 70% of the earth surface yet it still flows from the sky and can be found deep down the earth this shows how much you need it. Anyone who thinks the fight against damages to water bodies is another man's responsibility then he's like an Italian who thought the fight against Corona virus was for the Chinese. Thus protecting water bodies is a collective responsibility. Water is an essential to life on our planet, a need in every society, homes, factories because of its use. Such as washing, cooking, drinking etc. In villages where there’s no tap flowing, people depend on river bodies such as streams, lakes, etc for their everyday activities like cooking, washing, cleaning and other domestic purpose. However, there are certain activities in the community that pose threat to our water bodies. Some of the activities are caused

WATER POLLUTION: A THREAT TO NEXT GENERATION

Water is one of the plentiful and essential compounds, It is tasteless and odourless liquid at room temperature, it has the important ability to dissolve many other substances. Up to 60 to 70 percent of the human adult body is water, it is the most important substances that is needed by human beings, plants and animals in every aspect of life. Without water, all living organisms on earth would die. Water is necessary not for only drinking but also for our daily life purposes like bathing, cooking, cleaning, and washing amongst others. In the Western part of Africa, where our country Ghana is located, we can boast of surface water resources such as the Ankobra River, Brim, Densu, Pra, Volta, Ofin, Black Volta, Oti, Tano and a lot more. These water bodies aside the seas and the main Atlantic Ocean which borders the country helps us in our day to day activities. Certain practice we have adopted as people in the way we treat our water one way or the other is destroying the water bodies and

SCARCITY OF WATER:A DIFFICULT SITUATION IN THE ECOSYSTEM.

60% of the human adult body is water. Water is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odourless  and nearly colorless chemical substance, which is the main constituent of Earth’s hydrosphere and the fluid of most living organisms. Water carries nutrients to all the cells in our body and oxygen to our brain. Water allows the body to absorb and assimilate minerals, vitamins, amino acids, glucose and other substances.  Water exists in two forms Ortho-water and Para -water Water scarcity is the lack of fresh water resources to meet water demand. When there is not enough portable water for a given population, the threat of water crisis is realized. Water scarcity has affected every continent. Around 1.2 billion people,or almost one-fifth of the world’s population live in areas of physical scarcity and 500million people are approaching this situation. Since there is water scarcity, there is straggle for water. Causes of water scarcity 1. Climate change, such as altered weather-patterns ( includ

USES AND IMPORTANCE OF WATER

As the saying goes “Water is Life”, one cannot live without utilizing water. Water is just like a body with blood flowing through it, immediately the blood stops flowing, it becomes lifeless. One cannot do without water being a part of their lives and also benefit from using it. Water is used for domestic use. Domestics relates to the running of various household chores to ensure that the house is clean, neat and healthy for living. For instance, in every house, water is used for cooking, washing, cleaning and other various household chores to help improve living. Plants also need water for photosynthesis and also for its growth. During the ancient times in Egypt, farmers used their hands to collect water from the river Nile to water their plantation until the emergence of   industrialization where they were able to invent a shaduf which helped to

W ater remains an essential commodity in the ecosystem as well as the human body. The benefits of water in our everyday lives cannot be over-emphasized. Keeping the human body hydrated is a crucial undertaken for good health and well-being. Although, water is ubiquitous in nature pointing out the inevitable roles water plays in the ecosystem.  About 60 percent of the human body is made up of water and about 70 percent of the planet’s surface is covered by water this revealed how important water is very essential and necessary to living organism on earth. Ghana as a country in the sub-Saharan African is blessed with all kinds of water bodies including the sea, rivers, lagoons, lakes as well as falls and can boast of one of the biggest natural lake in West-Africa, Lake Bosomtwe. These should have been a great opportunity for the country to enjoy portable water and also protect aquatic life but sad to note that these water bodies have rather turned a national contaminants.
