WATER AN IMPORTANT RESOURCE: HOW TO CONSERVE AND PREVENT POLLUTION

A daily life cannot be made possible without the use of water. About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all Earth's water. Water also exists in the air as water vapor, in rivers and lakes. On an average  the body of a normal human being is 60% water. Most of which is contained in the cells, which need water to live. The write up below gives details on the uses if water to living organisms, animals and plants. It also gives a head up on the uses of water for our industrial and some domestic purposes as well as how to prevent water pollution.
HOW WATER IS USEFUL FOR LIVING ORGANISM
●Living organisms need water to survive. Some organisms, such as fish, can only breathe in water. Other organisms require water to break down food molecules or generate energy during the respiration process. Water also helps many organisms regulate metabolism and dissolves compounds going into or out of the body. Water has many uses for organisms. The way that it is utilized can be categorized in four different ways: as a solvent, as a temperature buffer, as a metabolite and as a living environment.

USES OF WATER TO MAN AND OTHER ANIMALS AND PLANTS
It helps prevent a heart attack. The human heart is always working and pumping around two thousand gallons of blood daily. By taking enough water more than you are losing, you are helping the heart to do its work.
It helps to keep animals hydrated.
Human beings and other animals use water to build body fluids.
It facilitates food absorption
Many kinds of fish survives in water.

Amphibians like the toads and frogs lay their eggs in streams, rivers, and lakes.
Animals use water for excretion of waste products. It aids collection of waste materials from the tissues and cells of the body which is then sent to the kidney, lungs, and skin for excretion.
Regulation of body temperature.
It also aids reproduction. This is in the formation of the transport media for the ova and sperms.
Water aids perspiration.
It keeps the mouth, eyes and other organs moist to enhance perfect performance.

Plants like algae and seaweed respire by absorbing carbon dioxide that is present in it.
Plants use water, sunlight and carbon dioxide to produce energy through photosynthesis and also give out oxygen.
Water aids in the germination of seeds in plants.
Water aids transpiration through
INDUSTRIAL AND DOMESTIC USE OF WATER

The major consumptive uses in Ghana are water supply, irrigation and livestock watering. Domestic and industrial urban water supplies are based almost entirely on surface water, either impounded behind small dams or diverted by weirs in rivers. Water supplies in rural areas, however, are obtained almost exclusively from groundwater sources. The various groundwater development programmes have resulted in the establishment of more than 10,000 boreholes countrywide. At present irrigation development does not play an important role in the overall water resources balance considerations. However, the potential for irrigation has been shown to be considerably larger than the present land area being irrigated. Rainwater harvesting has also become common and has a great potential to increase water availability in certain localised areas. It can be concluded, that if properly conserved and distributed, the surface water resources of the country should be adequate to meet future demands.
The Ghana Water Company Limited ( GWCL) and sanitation sector in Ghana faces a number of challenges, including very limited access to sanitation, intermittent supply, high water losses and low water pressure.
Since 1994, the sector has been gradually reformed through the creation of an autonomous regulatory agency, introduction of private sector participation, decentralization of the rural supply to 138 districts and increased community participation in the management of rural water systems.

Water is one of the most vital natural resources for all life on Earth. The availability and quality of water always have played an important part in determining not only where people can live, but also their quality of life. Even though there always has been plenty of fresh water on Earth, water has not always been available when and where it is needed,

 HOW TO CONSERVE WATER
1.Conserve water in the bathroom.
2. Conserve water when doing laundry.
3. Conserve water when watering your lawn.
4. Conserve water by using natural cleaning products.
5. Conserve water when you brush your teeth.
6. Conserve water when you prepare food.
HOW TO PREVENT WATER POLLUTION
1. DO NOT dispose of household chemicals or cleaning agents down the sink or toilet.
2. Avoid using the toilet as a wastebasket. Most tissues, wrappers, dust cloths, and other paper goods should be properly discarded in a wastebasket.
3. Avoid using a garbage disposal. Keep solid wastes solid.
4. Run the dishwasher or clothes washer only when you have a full load. This conserves electricity and water.
5.Reuse ItemsWhenever you buy something that is not recyclable, such as plastic, it is better to reuse this item as many times .
6. Recyclable Options. If there are two options for a particular item, pick the one that is easily recyclable.
7. Do Not Dispose Oils in the Sink While there is nothing wrong with consuming oils in your food, or applying them on your body, it is a bad idea to dispose of oils in the sink.

8. Do not Throw medicine into water bodies
9. House hold items .Do not throw household items, such as cloths, dental floss or wrappers, into the toilet when you are done with them.
